Watching the fog roll in

I wasn't sure about this shot.  On the one hand, I generally like the composition, with the jetty sort of disappearing into the fog, but on the other hand I could not decide if I liked all the contrast.  As you can tell I ended up going with a higher contrast, which to my eye sort of causes the jetty to just be there, instead of showing a lot of detail in it.  I went this way because I decided that all the detail in the jetty was not the point of the shot in the first place, but rather I just wanted to capture the idea of it disappearing.  What do you think?  How would you have handled this one?  Thanks for the feedback!

BTW, this was taken in Orange County, CA during the late afternoon...
