New forest, old mountain

I had a tough time getting to this spot.  We parked along the road heading west out of Red River, NM, smack in the middle of the Carson National Forest.  There was an area where the soil had been washed out and I was trying to climb up that washout so I could find a high spot to get the sunset.  It was essentially a scree slope with loose rock fragments and dirt.  Thanks goodness for the tripod, as it came in really handy, especially when I started to fall backward.  Anyways, I obviously made it and was glad to see the colors in the distance, and really liked this new little forest that was springing up here in what was a seemingly barren area.  I guess life always finds a way.
