New road, old mountain

I like road shots. They give that impression of just taking off somewhere and driving for the sake of driving.  In this case, we were driving with an actual destination, which was Ojo Caliente Hot Springs in New Mexico.  We were mostly on back roads, zig-zagging a bit as we followed the recommended route on our map.  It was flat, dry, and barren.  At some point we got onto this road, and as we came just over a rise, I was frantically grabbing my camera so I could get this shot.  Thank goodness my wife was driving!  It is interesting how quickly a landscape can change.  All of a sudden, we were in an incredibly beautiful area.  I love how the road bumps off into the distance, and disappears into the mountains.
